Tree-books / E-books

OK, it's settled, I now read tree-books and e-books. As most of you know by now, I've been thinking about getting an ereader for a while and finally decided on a Kobo Touch. I'm still learning how to use it and have been able to add a few books to my library, one of which I'm now reading.
It took me a while to make this decision, because I wasn't sure if an ereader would be my cup of tea, but I think I am going to enjoy it, especially for travelling. But, now I need a case for my new travelling companion!
Having said all this, I will never abandon tree-books. Like I've said before, there's nothing like fanning a brand new book in front of your face and breathing in the hot-of-the-press scent. Furthermore, I love walking up and down the isles of a library or book store, looking for books and 'meeting' new authors. No ereader will provide that for me. Browsing bookstores online just isn't the same.

If you have an Tree-book / E-book story to share, I'd love to hear it.

  1. I recently got a new e-reader, as well - a Kindle for my birthday. :) Since there are so many free Kindle book offers and good deals I thought it would be nice to have the option to read e-books on something besides my computer. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying it! I'm a fan of tree-books all the way, but I must admit that it's nice to have the slim little Kindle in my purse that can hold tons of books. :) I've become a tad obsessive, though, LOL! So if I can find a good balance, I think maybe I'm a fan of both tree-books and e-books, too. :)

  3. I work at the library so I never really thought about getting an e-reader until my mom stopped by one day and said, "Here, I bought this for you," and it was a Nook. OK, thanks (thinking I probably wouldn't use it too much) but I really do like the convenience of it. We went out of town last week and it was so convenient to have all my reading in a handy little "thing" that fits anywhere.

Like you said, nothing beats a good ol' book with pages, but I kind of like the option of both now. If you're anywhere near a public library, they probably have e-books that you can download and borrow like a regular book. Try checking out their website or giving them a call - you may not even have to go in for them! Enjoy ~

  4. I have an ipod touch with numerous books on it, I really can't say I have been reading them all that much, keep thinking I'll use it when I go somewhere's on a trip, I don't think it will ever really replace the tree book, nothing like holding a true book in your hands, even the smell of a book is great! :-) but I must admit it is convenient, I have all my favorite classics on my touch.
I also have a few Bible apps, can't say I use them to read my Bible tho, more to do a look up for certain passages or use it for a reference in a pinch.
Of course my touch is kinda small, I would love a kindle or the like, but...:-)

  5. glad to see you've taken the step! you will truly enjoy all the easy reading and easy access! no having to make a trip in to town to buy or browse the shelves at inconvenient times!
libraries will be there for when you need the tree bks [plus your review copies] unless you want instant review books! you now have that choice :)

i do love my kindle and the unlimited [seemingly] choices of daily freebies offered - every day i have new books to add and i'm never w/o a book wherever i have my kindle!

    HaPpY Reading!

  7. A kindle does help in saving space, but I still like printed books better.

  8. Totally agree. As much as I love my Kindle Fire, I'll never give up real books for all the reasons you mentioned. I'm addicted to that "hot-off-the-presses" smell you described so well :)

    Happy Hopping!
