Today is known as Three Kings Day and is observed by the Amish and also the Hutterites that I know of. It is treated as a Sunday with a morning church service which focuses on the wisemen - Matthew 2: Just like the wisemen following the star, disregarded distance and time to seek Jesus, so should we be led with God's Word as our guiding star, till we've found Jesus. Instead of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh God longs for our heart full of love, devotion and faithfulness.
For a bit of history about this Holy Day, go to
Amish and Old Christmas at Amish America. I found this article by Erik Wesner interesting and informative.
Ah yes, I'd forgotten about Three Kinds Day. Friends of ours used to celebrate their actual Christmas on this day. Thanks for the reminder. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Hallo Linda,
I never knew this, Johanna. Das ist so schoen! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I enjoyed hearing how it is observed in Hutterite communities as well. I hope you had a peaceful and restful day.
